Old Mount Zion Baptist Church

The Early Days

To the right is a picture taken in the early 1900's. It is of the school children who attended Old Mt Zion at that time. As was the case for other churches, Old Mt Zion shared a building that was school, community building, and church.

As the years have moved on, a lot has changed, but God remains the same.

Mal 3:6  For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

The Church Rebuilt

The Church was rebuilt at its present location in 1968 with Bro. A. H. “Jake” Norris as the pastor. Bro. Jake, as he was fondly called, was the son of Bro. George Norris who preached at the former Church.

Currently Brother Chris Carroll is our Pastor, and has been since June, 2001. The church has undergone some building projects in the past few years that has added rooms and a fellowship hall. We have been greatly blessed here at Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church and look forward to what God has instore for the coming years.

Brief Summary of Beliefs

We believe that the scriptures of the Old and New testaments are verbally inspired of God, therefore they are the word of God, and the final authority in faith and conduct.

We believe in one God, the Creator of man and all things, eternally existing in three Persons in a threefold relationship, that of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption.

We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, and is God incarnate, the God-man.

We believe that God is the spiritual Father of only those who trust His Son, Jesus Christ as Savior, and that only those saved through faith in Christ are spiritual brothers.

We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritually death, which is separation from God; that Adam’s sin is imputed to the whole race of mankind; that all human beings are born with a sinful nature; and that when they reach the state of moral responsibility become sinners before God in thought, word, and deed.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures as our substitution, and that whosoever believeth on Him shall be saved, and freely justified before God and stand before God accepted on the merit of Jesus Christ.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust; the just to everlasting blessedness in Heaven; the unjust to everlasting punishment in Hell.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ, in His ascension into heaven, and that in His present glorified body He is the Head of the church, the Lord of the individual believer, the High Priest over the house of God, and the Advocate in the family of God.

We believe in the personal, imminent, pre-tribulation, and pre-millennial second coming of Christ; first to receive His own to Himself, and later to set up His coming kingdom and to reign over redeemed Israel and all nations; that is to bring peace and blessing to the whole world.

We believe that all who by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior are born again of the Holy Spirit and Word of God, receive the Holy Spirit and a new nature, and also are baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ.
